Anchorage to Palmer to Glennallen/Galkana 8-24-12

Leaving Anchorage, another rainy dreary day.

Another State Fair, this one in Palmer.

State Fair Palmer.

Rain and clouds go away.

Back up into the hills.

Just around the corner.
Breathtaking views.

Out the window straight down, scary but beautiful.
Nice curves and drop offs, Bill's having fun.

Finally coming out of the mountains, fifty miles of mountainous, winding, steep roads, Bill loves it.

The Matanusks Glacier, the largest glacier in Alaska that can be reached by car, twenty six miles long and four miles across at its terminus.

Colors you can't imagine until you see them

Mountain view

Type of cotton weed, don't have all our nature books, save that for home.

Snow markers coming into Glennallen.
Coming into Glennallen and raining just like 4 years ago can't see a thing, mountains in the clouds. Wrangell St. Elias the largest national park in the US, contains the second highest mountain, it's in the clouds, Denali being the highest on the other side of Alaska. The only way you can see the glaciers is by plane or on the Alaskan Cruise, to cloudy for a plane again, maybe next time.

Aug. 24,2012 Another rainy overcast day. Not much luck with the weather lately but still continually beautiful views. Traveling from Anchorage thru Palmer to Galkana. One stretch of grueling road, 50 miles of mountainous, steep winding narrow road. We are headed for Canada, it will take a few days. Haven't seen many animals, dreary day. Made just over 6,000 miles today. Nice quiet RV camp in the middle of nowhere.
