Omak Washington to Wenatchee Washington to the Monitor City Camp Ground 9-2-12

Working our way through river valleys with lakes that are created by the dammed Columbia and its tributaries. Literally thousands of apple, peach, nectarine, pear and cherry orchards and other vegetable farms. And cold storage everywhere. Headed to Wenatchee Vally the apple capital of the US.
One of the dams, these rivers and dam system runs the full north to south spam of Washington.
Apple Orchard.

Sept. 2, 2012 Another gorgeous day, hard to get use to after all the cold and rain in Alaska. We went to St. Mary's Mission this morning for mass. Little church built in 1886 in the high dessert. There was a school built also for native Americans and is still going today.  Then on to Wenatchee. We stopped at a fruit stand, they are every where, and bought peaches, Bill said the best he had since he was a kid and the neighbor had a peach tree, nectarines, plums, corn, beans. Great corn, everything was so fresh.

Cache Creek BC to Omak Washington 9-1-12

Definitely dessert.
Coming back out of the mountains to Okanogon Lake BC.
This is BC's premier lake over seventy miles long, resorts up and down the whole lake, gotta be big bucks.
South end of the lake there are irrigation canals people use for recreation, hundreds of parties going on.
Sept. 1, 2012 Went from Cache Creek BC to Omak Washington through valleys with literally thousands of orchards and some small crop fields also. The sunlight is incredible, just barren dried up hills but with the irrigation they're growing massive quantities of food.

Prince George BC to Cache Creek BC 8-31-12

Looks like pretty good road and weather
Scenery getting barren less and less trees.
Looks very dry.
Starting to look like high dessert.
Man we better watch it, they got tall beavers here near camp, that stump is 10 feet tall.
Aug. 31, 2012 Another fast day, one more to the border guards and free to Washington. Hit 8,008 miles today.

Dawson Creek to Prince George 8-30-12

Head out on the highway, back across the Rockies today to get where we want to in Washington.
Foothills.
Bill says there's them doggone Rockies again.
Finally Prince George, nice truck.
I think we just missed a great sunset.
Aug. 30, 2012 Well another fast day, we're on a mission, we are just trying to get through Canada as fast as we can. Not much to see and very expensive, got plans for the US.

Ft. Nelson to Dawson Creek Mile 0 8-29-12

Well the Convoy left bright and early this morning but we still ran into them.
More construction.
Nice setup.
These guys had all kinds of setups and modifications. But all big stuff had Rockwell axles.
WWII original.
Dawson Creek.
50th Anniversary Memorial.
The Trekster made it back to mile 0.
Plaque commemorating the building of the Alaska Highway.
Aug. 29, 2012 Easy day of driving, caught up with the convoy and got to see some of the equipment on a good day finally. They had a decommission ceremony but we had to move on and missed it. This is where we started the highway on the way up, but the town was so busy with the convoy we couldn't stop and get pictures. Nice day but the rain keeps catching us at night, looks cloudy in the hills coming our way.

Junction 37 to Ft. Nelson 8-28-12

Right outside of Junction 37 we ran into a herd of Wood Bison, this is the master, big boy, top dog, numero uno, he runs the herd, these are larger than Prairie Bison.

Part of the herd. We think all the animals moved to Canada to avoid the draft, because we saw more animals in Canada than Alaska.
Young stud, could be next in line, he has some battle scars already.
Another dreary, rainy, overcast day and we're heading into the Rockies.
Coming up to Muncho Lake.
Muncho Lake, alpine lake.
Rockies in the distance, at Muncho Lake Pass.
Heading up to Summit Lake Pass in the Rockies, the highest pass on the Alaska Highway.
Climbing up Summit Lake Pass.
View from Summit Lake Pass, we are above the clouds today.
Another View.
Another view going down.
Who said you have to go to the Alps to be above the clouds.
Back down through the clouds.
That's the trouble when your up so high you have to go down, down, down.
Very neat.
Beautiful views, coming down.
Because this sign appears quite often after a particularly treacherous length of road, we surmise that it's the international symbol for soiled shorts disposal bin.
Finally caught up with the convoy in Ft. Nelson, BC. We just missed the ceremony, but big event in this small town. Some men who helped build the highway in 1942 were there.
Rockwell Top mounts.
Nice restoration.
Steve what's it say, I think its D O D G E, still purr's like a kitten.
Aug. 28, 2012 Long day today, 337 miles (7,190 miles total) and over the Rockies to boot. Even though it rained all day we saw some beautiful scenery. Finally caught the convoy after a three week chase but missed the ceremony.  But Bill got to talk to a lot of the guys about their restorations, some original but most modified for comfort and this trip.
